Is it still writer's block if you haven't really started writing yet? Who knows, maybe it's not even a real thing anyway, just a lack of creativity given a name that makes us feel a little bit better...
Although, it's not really a lack but a surplus that's the problem at the moment - it's choosing the option that works best for the story; working out which events are going to build character and momentum and add essential details to the tapestry. Then, conversely, being able to sideline ideas that work fantastically in the imagination as a stand alone scene, but maybe not so successfully on the page, in the context of the bigger picture.
I wish there was a handbook for two people writing as a team. Discussing things is fine, no issues there, but the problem is that we both seem to work better alone. We need to set up a routine, with an allotted time to work together, to brainstorm, make notes and shoot the shit, then a time to work apart, knitting all those bits and pieces together into narrative, or researching the details of something that we've just discussed.
I don't like routine as a rule and neither does my husband, but in this case, I believe that certain limits will actually allow us more creative freedom and might actually see us finishing this thing.
